I created this PR stunt solo, during a moment when Catalonia was being violently suppressed for attempting to hold a democratic independence vote.
Spain’s arguments against a legal referendum were so absurd I decided to test them in real life.
I took the government’s five “reasons” and applied them on the street, pranking people to expose how nonsensical they were.
The video was shared by the Catalan President, reached 4M views, sparked a hashtag used 800+ times, and was covered by national TV and newspapers.
Pre-TikTok. Zero budget. Fully organic.

The stunt was picked up by national press and shared by the Catalan President, who posted a newspaper article titled
“No, they can’t: the spectacular video that ridicules the arguments against the referendum,”
urging people to watch it with the caption: “You should all take a look at this video #NOTHEYCANT.”
